"All of us, I am sure, are concerned for children and young people, and the possible consequences of the use of AI on their intellectual and neurological development." - Pope Leo XIV
We are still early in the use of artificial intelligence and its impact on education. The world of education will be wildly changed with these new advancements. To commemorate the Jubilee of the World of Education (October 27 – November 1), The Good Newsroom conducted these interviews focused on this burgeoning pathway for student learning in this new environment.
This can be seen as an opportunity for cross-generational learning as the next generation of students are digital natives, having only lived in a world after the advancement of technology to this level and can be a great resource to learn to use new technologies most efficiently.
Both Pope Leo XIV and the late Pope Francis addressed AI's relationship to the Catholic faith, offering perspectives that remain essential as the Church navigates the complexities of the AI age and its implications for human dignity and connection.
The New York-based Center for Responsible AI maintains regularly updated resources on ethical technology use. Their work becomes increasingly relevant as U.S. legislators continue crafting policies that will shape AI's future landscape.
For this series, The Good Newsroom spoke with Julia Stoyanovich of the Center for Responsible AI about using artificial intelligence ethically as society navigates this emerging technology.
The Good Newsroom also spoke with experts from Iona University, a leading university in merging learning with AI. Iona President Seamus Carey gives great insight into the big picture approach Iona is taking with AI, and Education Department Chair, Christine Hardigree, who is able to speak on the work being done in the classrooms dealing with the new AI landscape.
In his video today, Cardinal Dolan shares the story of two of the lesser known apostles, Saints Simon and Jude.
