The Church of St Francis Xavier will host two events relating to the late composer Mary Lou Williams, on March 4 and 5, respectively. Mary Lou Williams was an arranger, composer, and jazz pianist who performed and recorded with some of the top names in jazz history, including Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman. Williams converted to Catholicism in 1954 and performed the first-ever jazz Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral in 1975. St. Francis Xavier will host a free concert, "An Evening of Sacred Jazz,"  performed by the Deanna Witkowski Trio, on Saturday, March 4 at 7:30 pm. On March 5 at 11:30 am, the parish will host the "Lenten Mass" by Mary Lou Williams, featuring the Deanna Witkowski Trio and the St. Francis Xavier Choir.
